The Name

From silk to spice

The Persian word abreshom (ابریشم) means silk — the thread that gave the ancient Silk Road its name, and that bound the world's greatest civilisations in trade for more than fifteen centuries.

We drew the name Abrexom from that word. A new pronunciation, a new beginning — but the same ancient purpose: to carry rare and precious things from their place of origin to the tables of those who deserve them.

The Silk Road carried silk, yes — but also jade, glass, paper, and above all, spices. Saffron was among the most prized. It traveled from the fields of Herat to the kitchens of emperors. We are simply continuing that journey.

How We Source

Direct from the farmers

1

Direct relationships

We work with farming families in the Herat Valley who have cultivated saffron for generations. Afghanistan's saffron sector is not industrialised — it is entirely in the hands of local farmers, and that is exactly how it should be.

2

Harvest & processing

Saffron flowers bloom for just two weeks each autumn. Every stigma is hand-picked at dawn by the same families who planted the corms, then dried slowly to preserve the full colour, fragrance, and flavour.

3

Honest sourcing

We make one promise and keep it: every jar contains saffron from the Herat Valley. Not a blend, not a repackaged commodity, not a mystery origin — small-scale, non-industrialised, handled with care from field to jar.

What We Believe

Four commitments

Purity

Only the stigmas. No stems, no dye, no artificial enhancement. Saffron's extraordinary value comes from its natural compounds — adulteration destroys exactly what you paid for. We refuse to do it.

Provenance

You deserve to know where your food comes from. Every jar contains saffron from Herat Valley — not a blend, not a commodity mix. The origin is the promise, and we never deviate from it.

Ethics

Afghan saffron farmers are among the hardest-working people in the world. They deserve fair compensation. We pay above market prices, build long-term relationships, and invest in the communities we source from.

Future

Saffron is only the beginning. As we grow, we will bring you more of what the Silk Road carried — cardamom, dried roses, sumac, turmeric — each with the same provenance, same care, same promise.
